In 1675, "Port wine" was first mentioned, and by 1703, the Methuen Treaty boosted trade with England, making Port wine the region’s economic heart.
To protect its quality, Portugal demarcated the Douro Valley in 1756—the world’s first official wine region.
Since then Douro Valley winemakers are producing world-famous wines (table wines and Port wine) and taking Portuguese wine Legacy to another dimensions.
ps: (This makes me very proud as Portuguese) :)
